    About Melissa

“The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself.”

    ~Steve Maraboli

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and currently practice in the states of New York and New Jersey. I was born and raised in New York City and have been living in New Jersey for several years. I feel very much connected to the Bicultural experience as a Latina(e), Bilingual (Spanish speaking) and Bicultural therapist with Puerto Rican roots. I am also a mom of two boys. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities and experiences, including People of Color and the LGBTQ+ community at a variety of settings. These settings include foster care, substance use, community mental health and rape crisis centers. I have extensively worked with those who identify with the Latinx(o)(a) and Bicultural experience and am able to provide therapy in the languages of English, Spanish and Spanglish, (a blend of English and Spanish). I believe that the intersectionality of your cultural, racial and sexual identity is an integral part of your healing process.

I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced different types of trauma, grief/ loss and childhood abuse. I have supported individuals in healing from anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, complex trauma, identity issues, self-esteem, childhood abuse and life transitions through gaining insight to the root cause. Together, we can explore your patterns, help manage your emotions, and identify the origin and process of these experiences.

As a holistic psychotherapist, I offer an eclectic approach to healing that encompasses a combination of mind, body and soul work. I utilize the integration of traditional talk therapy, such as Narrative Therapy, along with Mindfulness, Guided Meditation/Imagery, Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy and Inner Child Healing. As a culturally affirming therapist, I invite and welcome you to bring your culture and traditions in order to integrate them into your process. Together, we will collaborate to determine which approaches work best for you.

I understand that therapy can be uncomfortable at first, particularly if it is your first time. But I have a very interactive style. I will ask you questions, provide feedback, support you and gently challenge you to grow. I will always respect your journey and welcome you to set the pace for your healing. I work really well with people who are committed to their process and assist you in empowering your own path to gain deeper insight to who you are. Life is about living it, not merely surviving it. If you are ready to begin your journey, let’s connect.
